Itinerary

Transfer from Kigali to Bukavu: On day 1 of 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike, you will be picked from any hotel in Kigali Rwanda or direct from Kigali international airport upon landing as long as your flight lands early before mid-day. Be briefed about this 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike as you embark on a road drive to Bukavu Congo where Kahuzi Beiga national park is situated thus Bukavu is the best option for an overnight for almost all tourist on an adventure in Kahuzi Beiga national park for Eastern lowland gorilla trekking. Upon arrival in Bukavu, you will check in your reserved lodge, have dinner served and grab an overnight sleep. 

Eastern lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Beiga national park: After an early breakfast on day 2 of 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike, pack some snack and packed lunch and meet your safari driver who is ready to drive you to the  park headquarters in Kahuzi Beiga national park for a pre gorilla trekking briefing where you will get to learn more about Eastern lowland gorillas, the dos and don’ts during gorilla trekking in the wilderness of these giants and finally hire a porter to start the walk in search of the habituated gorilla family that has been trained and used to human presence. The trek lasts from a few minutes to about 5 hours or even more depending on how fast these gorilla move and also the speed used by trekkers in favor of the slowest trekker amongst the group of 8 trekkers. After finding the gorilla family, you will spend one hour with them taking photographs and learning more about the different manners of these gorillas. Finally, you will be led out of the forest and returned to the office to obtained your gorilla trekking certificate and be returned to your lodge for a relaxed dinner and overnight.

Transfer from Bukavu virunga national park: On day 3 of 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike, enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your lodge, check out and meet your driver to start the journey from Bukavu port and take a boat cruise along lake Kivu to Goma where you will then be driven to a nearby hotel for an enroute lunch. After lunch, you will then head to Grande barrier where you will visit the virunga park management for clearances and obtain your Mountain gorilla trekking permit and Mount Nyiragongo hiking permit and finally be transferred by a convoy to your lodge in virunga national park where you will enjoy your dinner and overnight.

Mountain gorilla trekking in virunga national park: On day 4 of 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike, wake up very early in the morning for your breakfast, pack enough drinks and snacks then be transferred to Bukima police patrol for a pre gorilla trekking briefing about the endangered mountain gorillas in Virunga national park, the gorilla trekking dos and don’ts and many other information that you may need during the trek. After the briefing, you start the fascinating journey in the wilderness of virunga national park in search of habituated mountain gorilla family while encountering other forest dwellers that live in the same forest with mountain gorillas. The entire trek takes about 2 hours to 7 hours and after finding the gorillas, you have only one hour with your gorillas taking photographs and watching the gorillas as they move on with their daily activities in the forest. Return to Bukima and be transferred to your lodge for a relaxed evening, dinner and overnight.

Hike Nyiragongo (Ascend): On day 5 of 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike, wake up on a cup of coffee for breakfast, pack enough snacks, drinking water, and sleeping back then check out and be transferred to Kibati range post for a Nyiragongo hike. While at Kibati, you will find experienced rangers ready to brief about Mount Nyiragongo the most active volcano with in virunga Massif that last erupted in 2002 destroying human lives and property. After briefing, the hike commences as you ascend to summit the top of Mount Nyiragongo where you will spend an entire night watching a Lava Lake that glows even more when raindrops in.

Descend Nyiragongo and transfer to Kigali for departures: On day 6 of 6 days Congo gorilla trekking safari and Nyiragongo hike, you will wake up at the summit of Mount Nyiragongo, have breakfast and start to descend Nyiragongo by 6:00am to return to Kibati ranger post where a convoy will pick you and be driven back to Goma to meet your safari driver for a return to Kigali for a city tour and departures.
