6 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking & Mount Nyiragongo Hike is one of the luxury and adventurous Congo safaris taking you to Virunga national park for 3 gorilla treks, Visiting Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage, and Mount Nyiragongo hike.
Transfer to Goma and connect to Virunga national park: In the morning on day 1 of 6 days Congo Ngila classic package, you will be met by our company representative in Rwanda who will introduce himself to you as you set off on road transfer from Kigali to Goma. The journey is so rewarding with lots of attractions along the way including people, fauna, and flora without forgetting the rolling hills of Rwanda the land of a thousand hills. Lunch will be enroute at any designated location. While in Goma, you will obtain both your Congo tourist Visa, 3 gorilla trekking permits and mount Nyiragongo hiking permit the proceed to check in Ngila lodge for dinner and overnight rest.
First Gorilla trekking in Virunga national park: Get out of your comfort zone as early as possible on day 2 of 6 days Congo Ngila classic package, have breakfast served and pack all your necessary requirements for the successful gorilla trekking in Virunga national park which include the best gorilla trekking gear, enough drinking water, snacks, and be transferred to Bukima police post for a briefing. After briefing, you may hire a porter or even two depending on your wish and finally set off on a memorable experience as you search for the habituated endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitats in Virunga national park alongside armed angers and local tour guides. The trek takes about some minutes to 7 hours depending on the movement of both gorillas and trekkers. Once you land on the gorilla family, you have an hour of interaction, taking photographs and learning about their manners then trek back to Bukima to meet your safari driver and be driven back to your lodge for a relaxed evening, dinner and overnight.
Second gorilla trekking in Virunga national park: After breakfast on day 3 of 6 days Congo Ngila classic package, you will be returned to Bukima for a briefing before heading into the forest for the second gorilla trekking adventure. During the briefing, inform the ranger about your previous trek in order to be offered a different gorilla family for comparison purposes. You will again spend one hour with the gorilla family and later on trial back to Bukima police post to meet your driver and be returned to Ngila lodge for a relaxed evening, Barbeque dinner as a sign of sending off their royal clients for the last night at this luxury lodge.
Third Gorilla trekking in Virunga national park: On day 4 of 6 days Congo Ngila classic package, you will wake up early for a cup of coffee for breakfast then pack whatever is required while in jungle, check out of the lodge and be driven once again to Bukima police post where you will be briefed for the third time before embarking on the third gorilla trek. After briefing you will be grouped in a group of maximum 8 person and be led back into the wilderness of virunga national park to search for the gorilla family. Spend an hour of photo taking and watching the gorillas closely and later on return to Bukima where you will be picked up and transferred to Mikeno lodge where you will check in. later in the evening, head out for an evening visit to Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage where you will spend some time viewing the endangered gorillas that are being protected in an orphanage after losing their parents. Return to your lodge, enjoy your served dinner and have a splendid overnight sleep in this stunning luxury lodge.
Mount Nyiragongo hike (Ascend): As soon as you are done with breakfast on day 5 of 6 days Congo Ngila classic package, check out of the lodge and be transferred to Kibati ranger patrol where you will meet a team of experienced rangers for a briefing with other hikers. Listen carefully to your rangers as they know more than you do for safety and security purposes. After briefing, you will set off to start the ascent via stunning vegetation at the base of Nyiragongo where you will be in position to encounter with primate species, mammal species, bird species, butterflies and different plant species that will reward you with the best back ground for photography. You will enjoy a picnic lunch along the hike and as soon as you get to the summit of Nyiragongo, you will be rewarded with a boiling lava lake that glows overnight. You will as well view the entire virunga national park from above and the neighboring cities.
Descend Nyiragongo to Kibati and transfer to Kigali: On day 6 of 6 days Congo Ngila classic package, you will wake up at the summit of Mount Nyiragongo and meet other hikers to prepare for descent back to Kibati where the hike starts. Upon arrival at Kibati, you will be transferred back to Goma to meet your Rwanda safari driver and be returned to Kigali with an enroute lunch. Being the last day, you will engage in Kigali city tour in case you missed it out on day 1 of this safari. Explore different attractions such as Kigali genocide memorial sites, Kimironko markets, visit the local Rwandese and many more to sum up your 6 days Congo Ngila classic package. After exploring Kigali with its beautiful people, you will be dropped off at any drop off location of your choice either a hotel or at Kigali international airport to catch a flight back home or to your next destination according to your travel plan.
This package includes 3 gorilla trekking permits, Mount Nyiragongo hiking permit, accommodation at luxury lodges (Ngila Lodge and Mikeno Lodge), and all meals as outlined in the itinerary. It also covers transfers from Kigali to Goma, all park entrance fees, and a local guide during the gorilla trekking and hike.
The Mount Nyiragongo hike is moderately strenuous. The ascent can take several hours, and hikers will encounter different vegetation, wildlife, and spectacular views along the way. You should be in good physical condition to handle the altitude and the hike itself.
While it's not mandatory, hiring a porter for gorilla trekking is highly recommended. Porters assist with carrying personal items and offer support during the trek, making the experience more enjoyable.
The gorilla trekking can take anywhere from 1 to 7 hours, depending on the gorillas' movements and the terrain. You will spend one hour with the gorillas once you find them.
The best time for gorilla trekking in Congo is during the dry seasons, which are generally from June to September and December to February. However, it is possible to do this trek year-round.
